Google Analytics is a very powerful service. It is one of the most popular data sources for Grow users.

What is the difference between Metric and a Dimension?
One of the key things working with Google Analytics is the difference between a Metric and a Dimension.

Metrics are quantitative measurements. The metric Sessions is the total number of sessions. The metric Pages/Session is the average number of pages viewed per session.

Dimensions are attributes of your data. For example, the dimension City indicates the city, for example, "Paris" or "New York", from which a session originates. The dimension Page indicates the URL of a page that is viewed.

Another way to see it is Metrics are numbers, integers. For example, the number of conversions, users, page views. Dimensions, on the other hand are how you want to dice up the data. How you want to look at it---by day, by operating system etc.

This Google Analytics doc has a list of the metrics and dimensions available in Google Analytics. It has a nice feature that lets you see which metrics can be queried with which dimensions. This can come in handy because not all metrics and dimensions go together.

Can I recreate a specific report in Grow?
Yes, you can recreate any report you can see in Google Analytics in Grow. Google Analytics doesn't have specific custom reports, because all reports are created using metrics and dimensions. This makes it a very dynamic tool to have. We haven't found one that our data analysis and wizards couldn't recreate. If you are having a hard time creating the report you want, ask us, we can help.

How do I use filtering?

How does Grow handle sampling?
We provide the same 4 sampling options in Grow that Google Analytics has. The lowest option pulls in very quick, but has higher sampling limits. Grow does have an Unsampled Report feature. If you want to get access to it, contact your Grow data rep. You can also learn more about sampling in this article.

Why do my numbers in Google Analytics and Grow look different?
Grow uses the exact same data source as your Google Analytics web interface. If something doesn't match up, we are probably looking at the number slightly different. Here is an article with common problems and solutions.

Do you have any tips in using Google Analytics?
There are a few tips that may help you understand how Google Analytics gathers and interprets data a little better. You can read up on them on our help article here to get more value out of your integration.

Getting errors while trying to connect to Google Analytics?
Make sure you have enough admin permissions for that Analytics account you are trying to connect.  If you keep getting an error page that says Grow could not retrieve the auth info you might need to give yourself more permissions, or ask your Google Analytics admin for more permissions.
