Here we'll show you how to run reports and create metrics in Grow for your Dentrix account. If you need help connecting your account, start with this article.

Running Reports

The Dentrix Connector uses SQL to run reports; however, you don't need to know SQL because the connector comes with some useful, pre-built reports. 

These pre-built reports are listed on the right-side panel of the connector. To run them, double-click on the report, then click the Query tab in the top menu bar, then Execute from the menu that pulls up.

When you run a pre-built report, notice that the SQL code that creates the report appears in the middle panel. If you know SQL, you can use this middle section to modify the report to your needs, or to write your own queries to create new reports. 

Each report has a name, a group, and the SQL query. All of the available tables are listed in the “Data Schema” tab on the left-side panel.

Exporting Reports to Grow

There are two ways to export reports to Grow: manually and automatically.

Manual exports: After you run a report, you can view the results in the connector. Then click the blue “Upload to Grow” button. This sends a copy of the results to Grow. This will make the results available for you to use in Grow.

Automatic exports: You can configure the automatic report settings by clicking Query in the menu, then Query Manager.

Two settings are required to automatically send reports to Grow:

1: Select an interval. The first setting is to select an interval for each report to run. Reports can run hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly. 

To modify this, select a report, then click the Edit button at the bottom of the window.  Under Report Information, there is a drop-down menu for Interval where you can set how frequently the report runs. If the Interval is selected and the Report Interval is turned on (see step 2 for turning it on), the reports will export as reports to your Grow account.

2: Turn on reports. The second setting is to turn on the reports. Here, you set what time the reports for a specific interval will run. Once the interval is checked, all reports that have been set to that interval will essentially be enabled and will run at the time you specify.

To do this, find the Report Interval Options section on the right-hand side of the connector. You can check the reports you want to run and set the specific times for each report. You don’t need to worry about the “Export Location”–everything will automatically be sent to Grow.

  1. Hourly: You may not need reports to run 24 hours each day. You can set the start and end times so reports only run hourly during your business hours.
  2. Daily: Select a time for the daily reports to be run each day.
  3. Weekly: Select a day of the week and time of day for the report to run each week.
  4. Monthly: Select a day of the month and the time of day for the report to run each month. 

And of course, if you don't have reports of a certain interval, then turning them on and setting a run time for them is not necessary.

Creating Metrics in Grow

Once you have successfully exported data from the connector to Grow, the data will be available in Grow under the exported report’s name. Each subsequent export will replace the report with the updated data. 

To access this, log in to your Grow account and click Add Metric. Select Dentrix from the list of data sources, and you will be able to access your data.
