The level of detail can make a big difference when making charts. Sometimes you have information by day or week, when you want to display it by month.
Grow allows you to group your data any way you want. Here is how to display daily data by month.
If you want to just temporarily group the data by month, you can use the automatic date grouping buttons on the metric on the dashboard:
You can read more information about that feature here.
If you want to group the data on a metric level so it always appears by month, here is how you can.
First, connect your data source. We will use Google Analytics for this example. Once you've connected, go ahead and add a custom metric.
For our metric, we will pull pageviews and unique pageviews 90 days back. Use the Metrics button to select Pageviews and Unique Pageviews, then the Dimensions button to choose Date. In the date drop-down field, choose 90 days back.
Click connect, double check that your data looks right, then click the blue Continue button.
We now have pageviews and unique pageviews by day. We want them to display by month. In order to do this, we need to group the data. Above your data, click the Group Data icon.
In the column drop-down, select ga:date. Check the 'Treat as a date' box, then select Month.
Now we'll add the aggregation to add up all the daily days which are now grouped as a month. Click 'Add aggregation' and select Sum of the column 'ga:pageviews'. Do this again for the column 'ga:uniquePageviews'.
Now all that is left is to display the data. Go to Chart Settings, click on 'Add Data Series' and select the column header for pageviews. Do this again for the column uniquepageviews.
Change the chart type to a line chart. Go to Chart Labels, click 'Add Chart Labels' and select the date column.
Change the date format to something nicer like 'Jan '15'.
Give the metric a name, click Save and you are done!
