Building Area Charts

This article will show you how to build and use an area chart in Grow.

Use Cases

An area chart is often better suited for fewer variables. The strong suit of the area chart is to be able to see percentages or a general comparison of different variables better than on a line chart, for example.

Volume and trend over time. While lines are a good way to show trend and columns are good for volume or traffic, an area chart effectively displays both. This could be used for site traffic or other volume measures.

Building an Area Chart

To build an area chart, first log in to your Grow account and click Add Metric. Choose your data source, connect your data, and press continue.

In Edit Metric, click on the chart type menu to view the list of charts. Go ahead and select Area Chart.

Next, you will need to select your data series. When you use an area chart, you can add multiple area sections by selecting additional data series. Once you have selected all of your data series, you can format each series, if you want to change the formatting.

Finally, be sure to add chart labels and key values to your metric.
