File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is used to transfer files between computers on a network. You can use FTP to exchange files between computer accounts, transfer files between an account and a desktop computer, or access online software archives. Here's some things you can expect from the FTP/SFTP File Access feature in Grow.
NOTE: This data source is only available for accounts on the Professional plan. If you would like to upgrade your plan, talk to your Grow account manager or visit your account's billing page.
How to Connect
- Log into Grow. Click on Add Metric. Navigate to the FTP connector. Click Connect.
- Type in your username and password. (This is your FTP server username and password, not your Grow username and password.)
- Port (The port is usually 21, but host and port depend on how your FTP server is configured. The port for SFTP is usually 22.)
And that’s it. You are good to go!
FAQs + Tips and Tricks
One Sheet per Report
For Excel-based files, you can select 1 sheet at a time. So if you have an Excel doc with multiple sheets, you need to create a report for each sheet.
Uniquely Named Headers
If there isn’t a unique column header in your chart, you will have difficulty using Grow’s transform tools as we wont know which columns to filter, group, pivot, etc.
Most files must be smaller than 15 MB in order to successfully pull them into Grow. Under some extenuating circumstances, our support teams can make exceptions for files up to 50 MB.
Supported File Formats
XLS, XLSX, XLSM, and CSV. If you're looking to use JSON or XML files, Grow can pull those in, but we suggest converting to a CSV first.
