Your data is the crucial component to successful BI, and we want to make it easier for you to manage it—even before you start to visualize it.
We’ve moved data sources and datasets out from the account settings page to their own section in Grow: The Data tab. Here you can connect and share your data connections and datasets.
Any user account with at least the permissions to “Add and Manage Metrics” will see the Data tab.
In the Data tab, you will see two sections in your data library: Connections and Datasets
Connections
In this section you can manage all of the connections to various data sources from each user. Depending on your permission level, you might only see the connections you have made to Grow or you will see all the connections in your organization.
- The search box will let you search the existing connections by connection name, the user that created the connection, and the data source used.
- You can filter the list to see only those connections that you have added or to see only those connections that are broken (possibly due to a username/password change or an API update from that software) by clicking the appropriate checkboxes.
- Create a new connection to a data source by clicking the “Add Connection” button at the top right.
- The metric and dataset count for each data connection shows all of those that are dependent on that connection staying live (it could be that the connection is used with a dataset that has another report being used in another metric or dataset). If the connection is removed, then all of those metrics and datasets would be deleted.
You can click on the number to see the list of metrics or datasets using this connection. If the metric is grayed out that means they don’t have permission to view the dashboard that the metric is on.
Connection Details
To see more information about each data connection, click on the action menu for that connection at the far right of the list and select “Details,” or click on the connection name.
To rename a specific data connection, simply click on the name, type in the new name, and hit enter (or click somewhere else on the page).
Here you can also reconnect the data source or share it with other users in your Grow account.
Datasets
In this section you can see all of the datasets created in your Grow account.
- The search box will let you search the existing connections by connection name, the user that created the connection, and the data source used.
- You can create a new dataset by clicking on the “Add Dataset” button at the top right.
- The metric and dataset count for each dataset shows all of those that are dependent on that connection staying live. If the dataset is removed, then all of those metrics and datasets would be deleted.
You can click on the number to see the list of metrics or datasets using this dataset. If the metric is grayed out that means they don’t have permission to view the dashboard that the metric is on.
Dataset Details
To see more information about each data connection, click on the action menu for that connection at the far right of the list and select “Details,” or click on the connection name.
Here you can edit, copy, or start building a metric using that dataset. You can also see the last time the data has been updated and adjust the refresh rate for the dataset.
