Migrating Instagram Legacy Metrics to Instagram Business
Good day to all!
Effective March 20th, 2020, we are going to migrate automatically all metrics using the legacy Instagram connector (or just the connector labeled "Instagram") in favor of the new and improved Instagram Business integration.
A while back, Instagram's legacy API documentation alluded to them deprecating their endpoints that our users pull data from in "early 2020". Link here. While this tentative time frame seems nice because there is no strict date for deprecation, we wanted to take every measure to ensure that your data and metrics would be protected during the period of transition. Therefore, we decided to proactively build a migration that would allow your Instagram metrics to continue to pull data.
That being said, there are things that we can't migrate automatically, unfortunately. For one, all Instagram metrics now require the user to be connected to a business account. This was out of our control; since Instagram is owned by Facebook and their new API leverages the Instagram Graph API provided by Facebook, we must abide by the way their new API works.
There are a few more things to consider. Users will have to go into each metric using Instagram, verify the business account they're connected to, and click "Get Data" to force the metrics to refresh. In summary, these are the things users must do after March 20th for continual use of their Instagram metrics:
- Connect Instagram Business within Grow as a new data connection, in case this hasn't already been done
- Click to edit each metric using Instagram; notice they're now pulling from Instagram Business
- Select the business account on the "Data" tab within the metric builder for each Instagram Business report
- Verify other parameters, like fields and reports
- Click "Get Data"
- Validate data received by verifying column selection, etc.
- Live long and prosper 💯
We at Grow always try our best to ensure seamless transitions with these things, but sometimes it isn't a possibility to make it as smooth as we'd like. We thank you for your patience! You may reach out to product@grow.com if you have any questions on this topic.
Catch ya later, Growmies!
